LeBron James' agent, Rich Paul, has stated that there is no set timeline for the NBA star's free agency decision, emphasizing that James will not be rushed by outside pressures, including those from the league office.
"There’s been several people to call and say, ‘Hey, Rich, is there anything more we should be doing? We could be doing? And my answer is, ‘No. We don’t need you to go above and beyond about anything. We understand it. It’s clear. All the message have been sent,’" Paul said on the podcast "Game Over" with Max Kellerman.
Paul indicated that James possesses all the information he requires from prospective teams and will make his decision when he feels ready. "These people don’t know anything. I don’t know when his choice is going to be made, but it could be 48 seconds [from now]," Paul explained. "It could be 48 minutes. I don’t know. Again, you can’t make somebody know something that they don’t know."
The anticipation surrounding James' free agency has created significant buzz across the NBA. At a recent event, James made appearances, but did not reveal his decision, leaving fans and media disappointed.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has acknowledged that James' decision is impacting the league's schedule for the upcoming season. Paul confirmed he met with Silver to discuss the situation, reiterating that James will decide on his own timetable.
Last season, James, who will turn 42 during the 2026-27 NBA season, averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.1 rebounds in 60 games. He helped the Lakers secure the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference, leading them past the Houston Rockets in the first round of the playoffs before a sweep by the Oklahoma City Thunder. Despite his age, the 22-time All-Star and four-time MVP continues to perform at a high level.
Paul remains firm in his stance that James will not be hurried into a decision, suggesting the basketball world will simply have to wait for his chosen moment.
