"Happy 20th Birthday Dannielynn! ❤️ Love, Dad ❤️," Birkhead captioned the post. He also provided details about her outfits from the video, noting a dress and tights from Social Collusion for Hot Topic and a "Ghost T-shirt" from Hot Topic. Many commenters remarked on Dannielynn's resemblance to her late mother, model Anna Nicole Smith.
The tribute comes after Dannielynn's appearance with her father at the Barnstable Brown Gala in May, held ahead of the Kentucky Derby. At the event, she debuted a new, edgier look featuring a shorter pixie haircut with darker ends and a black gown. Birkhead shared his pride in her "rocking" new style and noted that she is "coming into her own."
Birkhead recalled that Dannielynn expressed a desire for "something edgy and cool" before she cut her hair, admitting he was initially apprehensive. He further explained that Dannielynn has been exploring a "different style" this year, moving beyond comparisons to her mother and expressing her own "goth rock theme" aesthetic.
Birkhead and Dannielynn have attended the Kentucky Derby and related events multiple times. In the previous year, Dannielynn paid homage to her mother by wearing a gown that Anna Nicole Smith had previously worn to the Barnstable Brown Gala. In 2023, she wore a Guess shirt featuring images of the late model.
Anna Nicole Smith died in February 2007 at the age of 39 from an accidental drug overdose. She welcomed Dannielynn in September 2006, less than a year before her death. After Smith's passing, Birkhead was confirmed as Dannielynn's biological father through DNA testing.
Smith also had a son, Daniel, born in 1986. Daniel died at age 20 in September 2006, just days after Dannielynn's birth, also due to an accidental drug overdose.
Birkhead has previously stated that he and Dannielynn lead a "normal" life, describing his daughter as "very grounded and very humble." He noted that Dannielynn chose to attend public school throughout her life.
