LSU head coach Lane Kiffin made his first official entrance into Tiger Stadium for the season opener against Clemson, accompanied by a notable group of celebrities, including influencer Livvy Dunne, model Brooks Nader, and comedian Theo Von. The event marked a high-profile debut for Kiffin, who joined the LSU program at the end of the previous season.
Nader, a native of Baton Rouge whose grandfather is LSU's assistant athletic director for football operations, had appeared earlier on ESPN's "College GameDay." Von, also a Louisiana native, has ties to LSU, having written for the school newspaper, The Reveille. Dunne, a former member of LSU's national championship gymnastics team, was present for the game. She and Kiffin are also slated to appear in an upcoming reboot of "Baywatch."
The highly anticipated matchup between LSU and Clemson was further complicated by a legal battle concerning the eligibility of two players, Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris. These players, who spent time with NFL squads over the summer, were seeking a fifth year of college eligibility. The SEC is reportedly suing LSU, alleging the university is violating league rules by allowing players rostered by professional teams to join the college team.
While Wright and Harris did not make the roster by the season's deadline and therefore would not play in the opener, reports indicated they could potentially be added later in the year. Kiffin addressed the decision to keep them off the roster for now during his "GameDay" appearance. He stated that while he sympathizes with the players and believes in their right to play, the decision was made with the overall interests of the LSU football program in mind, given the uncertainties surrounding their potential addition to the roster.
