Former NBA player Lamar Odom is anticipated to accept a plea deal in a Las Vegas driving under the influence (DUI) case, according to his defense attorney, Michael Becker.

Odom, 46, was arrested on January 17 and subsequently charged with DUI, speeding, and failure to maintain a driving lane. He had previously pleaded not guilty to these charges in March. The agreement involves a no-contest plea, which would downgrade the original DUI charge to reckless driving. With a no-contest plea, Odom will agree to the terms set by the Clark County District Attorney's Office without formally admitting guilt.

A bench trial scheduled for Tuesday in Las Vegas Justice Court was continued to allow for the plea entry later this month. Odom is not expected to be present for the plea hearing, Becker said.

The Clark County District Attorney's Office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

According to the arrest report, a Nevada State Police Highway Patrol trooper observed Odom speeding and changing lanes without signaling on January 17. Upon being stopped, Odom reportedly had bloodshot eyes and a smell of marijuana, the trooper stated. Odom denied consuming alcohol, attributing the marijuana smell to a passenger. The trooper deemed Odom's performance on field sobriety tests unsatisfactory, noting he was unable to touch his nose with his finger and lost his balance.

Odom played 14 seasons in the NBA, winning championships with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009 and 2010. He also played for the Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, and Dallas Mavericks. His 2013 marriage to reality television personality Khloe Kardashian garnered significant media attention. That same year, Odom was arrested for a DUI in Los Angeles and later pleaded no contest, receiving three years of probation.

In 2015, Odom experienced a widely reported medical emergency at a legal brothel in Nevada. The arrest report from the DUI incident indicates Odom told the trooper he had suffered 12 strokes and six heart attacks, stating he believed he had been "poisoned at the brothel in Pahrump."
