Sandro Mamukelashvili, who recently signed a four-year, $52 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, took an unconventional approach to his summer league debut by serving as a courtside photographer. Mamukelashvili, a new addition to the Lakers roster, was observed capturing the first half of a summer league game between the Lakers and the Mavericks from the media area.

Mamukelashvili, who has expressed an interest in photography, described the experience as a learning opportunity and a chance to engage in “extra stuff.” He noted the challenges of holding the camera steady, managing zoom functions, and capturing decisive moments. During the game, he was heard exclaiming about missing shots and needing to find the right balance between framing and subject detail.

He self-assessed his photography skills during the game, initially giving himself a B+ before upgrading to an A- after capturing a dunk. Mamukelashvili found his rhythm as the second quarter progressed, embracing the creative aspect of documenting the game.

Beyond his photography excursion, Mamukelashvili discussed his excitement about joining the Lakers, citing the organization's history and the opportunity to be part of a new era. He expressed admiration for the team's legends and grew up a fan of Kobe Bryant, even getting a "Mamba Mentality" tattoo. He is eager to contribute to the team's roster reconstruction alongside players like Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, bringing his size, physicality, and shooting ability to the squad.

Mamukelashvili is expected to play a role in the Lakers' long-term vision, with his contract including a player option for the 2029-30 season. He is coming off a career year with the Toronto Raptors, where he received votes for Sixth Man of the Year. His statistical career-best marks in scoring, field goal percentage, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks were achieved during the 2025-26 season.
