Kristin Cavallari has stated that her children fly in economy class while she travels in first class, a parenting decision she explained stems from a desire to instill financial awareness and an understanding of earned privilege.
During a recent appearance on the "Aspire with Emma Grede" podcast, Cavallari, 39, discussed her approach to raising her three children: Camden, 13, Jaxon, 12, and Saylor, 10. She emphasized the importance of her children understanding that their fortunate circumstances are a result of her hard work. "I try to be very hyper-aware of that because they are growing up in a very fortunate situation and I want to know this is my money, this is not your money," Cavallari stated.
She added that the practice of flying coach with her children while she occupies a first-class seat is a deliberate choice that began when they were old enough to travel without constant supervision. "Something as small as they fly coach I'm flying in first class. That was important to me when they became old enough," she said.
Cavallari’s comments echo a similar situation involving singer Jessica Simpson, who faced public scrutiny after it was revealed she sat in first class while her children were in a separate section of the plane. Simpson had explained that the tickets were a gift from her mother for a trip to Hawaii.
Cavallari also touched upon her divorce from former NFL player Jay Cutler, whom she was married to from 2013 to 2022. She credited the success of her business ventures, Uncommon James, for giving her the confidence to leave the marriage. Cavallari noted that she did not receive any financial settlement from Cutler. Instead, she had to buy out his stake in Uncommon James, a transaction that involved cash and properties.
"I didn't get anything, which I'm so happy about now," Cavallari said. "But I don't get any money from my ex-husband. I had to give him half the value of Uncommon James in cash and properties and everything else."
