A man armed with a knife jumped onto the hood of a moving vehicle and pursued another person through the streets of Canada in a daylight altercation that a witness described as resembling an action movie. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon near Redwood Park in Surrey.

Robin Nuber, who was on his way to a photoshoot, observed a barefoot man running toward his Tesla with another man in pursuit, wielding a knife. Nuber began recording the event as the knife-wielding assailant clung to the side of his car while Nuber reversed to escape the unfolding chaos. A woman also appeared in the background, seemingly attempting to intervene.

"Never felt something like this happen, especially in broad daylight," Nuber told CityNews Everywhere. "Even the firefighters and officers agree it was wild, I mean they all asked to see the video asking, can we see it again because it really does feel like a movie."

The man being chased managed to get inside Nuber’s car once he was far enough from the attacker. He sustained multiple injuries, including a bloody mouth, a gouged eye, and cuts to his arm.

Police identified the alleged attacker as 37-year-old Richard Evoy, who was taken into custody and charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and uttering threats. According to Sgt. Lindsey Houghton of the Surrey Police Service, Evoy has prior interactions with police related to property crimes. Police stated that Evoy, the man he allegedly chased, and the woman seen in the video are known to each other, and the attack is not believed to be random.

Nuber recounted that the incident began shortly after 4:40 p.m. when he encountered a crashed white pickup truck and a Jeep with deployed airbags. He initially suspected a road rage incident and began filming. He then heard a warning that the man had a knife, initiating the chase.

"It felt like I was at an actual movie set, but nope, it was not - it was very real," Nuber told CBC. He observed Evoy climbing out of the pickup truck, knife in hand, before jumping onto the truck bed and pursuing the fleeing man.

Nuber began recording as the unidentified man clung to the side of his car while Nuber drove in reverse, trying to escape the chaos unfolding in front of him

The barefoot victim ran towards Nuber’s Tesla, seeking help, and clung to the side of the moving vehicle. Nuber reversed his car, creating distance between the victim and Evoy. "The guy basically ended up hanging onto my car and then being kind of dangled underneath the door for about 100 feet. I think I dragged him just to get him away from the guy," Nuber told the outlet.

Nuber eventually stopped the car at the victim's request, allowing him to get inside. Evoy then abandoned the pursuit, and according to Nuber, tossed the knife into the woods. Police arrived shortly after and took Evoy into custody without incident.

Police confirmed in a statement that the victim attempted to drive away in his pickup truck when Evoy allegedly drove his Jeep Wrangler into it. The victim then fled the truck as Evoy brandished a knife and chased him. Officers stated, "Fortunately, a nearby witness driving a Tesla provided the victim safety until SPS officers arrived."

The victim suffered multiple injuries during the altercation, including a bloody mouth, a gouged right eye and cuts to his arm

Evoy remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Surrey Provincial Court. Despite the ordeal, Nuber managed to make it to his scheduled family photoshoot.
