The New York Knicks have been unsuccessful in their attempts to acquire center Yves Missi from the New Orleans Pelicans, with multiple trade offers being turned down, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes. The Pelicans reportedly view Missi as a vital core player and have indicated no intention of trading him.
This is not the first time the Knicks have pursued the 6-foot-11 big man. In February, The Post reported that the Knicks had approached New Orleans about Missi, but at that time, the Pelicans were seeking a first-round draft pick, which the Knicks did not possess.
The Knicks' intensified search for a center follows the departure of Mitchell Robinson. Robinson, who spent eight years with the Knicks, agreed to a three-year, $47.4 million contract with the rival Boston Celtics. This move came after the team's NBA championship celebration, with owner James Dolan reportedly unwilling to exceed the NBA's second apron, a luxury tax threshold.
Missi averaged 5.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game for the Pelicans last season. He is recognized as one of New Orleans' strong offensive rebounders and rim protectors, contributing to the team's reluctance to trade him.
In addition to their pursuit of Missi, the Knicks were also reportedly among the teams vying for Marvin Bagley III before he signed with the Denver Nuggets. The Knicks are seeking to fill the void left in their frontcourt by Robinson's exit.
