The man accused of fatally shooting conservative activist Charlie Kirk at a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University is facing aggravated murder charges, with prosecutors saying they will seek the death penalty. Tyler Robinson appeared in court virtually for the first time as prosecutors announced a notice of intent to seek the death penalty following Kirk’s death on Sept. 10. Robinson surrendered to authorities after a 33-hour manhunt that followed the shooting.

A relative of Lance Twiggs, the person whose home Robinson is said to have shared with at least one point in time, told Fox News that Twiggs struggled with gender identity, substance use, and an attachment to video games. The relative said Twiggs was living with his father before being kicked out for disruptive behavior, and that he subsequently lived with his grandparents until he finished high school. “But the real reason he was acting out was because he was using drugs and alcohol, and was addicted to gaming,” the relative said. In the interview, the family member described Twiggs as difficult at times and said his father “thought he wasn’t being respectful and was problematic, so they kicked him out.”
