Kim Kardashian revealed that she was invited into Elizabeth Taylor's home shortly after the iconic actress's death to view her renowned jewelry collection.
Kardashian, 46, recounted the experience in a recent Instagram video while visiting a Bulgari store to try on Taylor's famous emerald and diamond necklace for a photoshoot. She shared that she had previously seen the dazzling piece, which was later sold back to Bulgari for $6,587,500, within Taylor's home.
"When she passed away, I was brought into her home [and] shown her safe with all of her jewelry before they cleared it out," Kardashian told the Bulgari team. "So, I was able to see everything in her home and her jewelry still in her safe and all of her stuff still [there], her furniture."
She added, "I was able to go in there like right after she passed. I know that sounds insane, but I was able to see this stuff in her purple closet."
During her visit to the Bulgari store, a team member informed Kardashian that the emerald and diamond necklace had been "pulled from the archives" specifically for her. They also shared that Taylor's husband, Richard Burton, had gifted her the piece. Kardashian's mother, Kris Jenner, quipped in response, "What a guy."
Kardashian noted that she had a phone conversation with Taylor about this specific necklace before the actress's death in 2011. While trying on the necklace and matching earrings, Kardashian expressed her excitement, telling the camera, "I am freaking out."
Kardashian praised her stylist, Law Roach, for arranging the experience, calling it "the best birthday present ever" and stating, "Now I can start my year with this Elizabeth energy."
She concluded the video by saying, "What a way to start the press tour, like insanity." She captioned the post, "If these jewels could talk...@elizabethtaylor @bvlgari."
This is not the first time Kardashian has paid tribute to Taylor. For the press tour of her show 'All's Fair,' she wore Taylor's Tiziani Roma cape, which her mother purchased at auction. Jenner also wore the cape to the show's premiere in Rome. The cape, designed by Tiziani Roma, was originally worn by Taylor to Grace Kelly’s 40th birthday party in 1969, accessorized with the Taylor-Burton necklace.
In 2011, Kardashian acquired three diamond and jade Lorraine Schwartz bracelets that belonged to Taylor for $64,900, calling the late actress her "idol and my icon." Last July, she wore Taylor's diamond chandelier earrings, valued at $400,000, along with a replica necklace on a Paris runway. She also drew inspiration from Taylor for her look at the 2026 Academy Museum Gala, wearing a 1951 Balenciaga gown.
Taylor's Bulgari collection, gifted by Burton, also included earrings, a bracelet, a ring, and a convertible brooch. She famously wore the emerald necklace when accepting her Academy Award for 'Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?' Following Taylor's death in 2011, her extensive collection was auctioned by Christie's for over $137 million.
Kardashian has previously faced controversy for wearing items owned by deceased celebrities. In 2022, she wore Marilyn Monroe's Jean Louis gown to the Met Gala, which was loaned by Ripley's museum. Historians raised concerns about potential damage to the delicate fabric.
More recently, she wore Princess Diana's Attallah Cross pendant, which she purchased at auction in 2023 for nearly $200,000. She also owns pieces belonging to Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley, and in 2017, she bought Jackie Kennedy's watch for $379,500.
