Kim Kardashian is leaning into her bar exam journey, using her past struggles with the test to promote her energy drink brand, Update. In a humorous advertisement shared on Instagram, the 45-year-old TV personality directly addresses her failure to pass the bar exam, which she took in July 2025 and publicly announced she did not pass in November of the same year.
The ad opens with Kardashian at a press conference, fielding questions from reporters. She pauses dramatically after discussing the "work" she's done, removing her sunglasses to declare, "Not that kind of work." When asked how she accomplishes so much, she attributes her energy to her new drink, stating, "Honestly, my energy is just different."
Later in the ad, Kardashian is depicted sitting inside a clear box, resembling a museum exhibit. As onlookers pass by, one questions if she passed the bar. The opera music playing in the background abruptly stops as Kardashian turns and confidently replies, "No. I didn't pass the bar. I raised it."
Kardashian, who became a co-founder of Update alongside its original founders, Daniel Solomons and the Hess family, explained the drink's concept. "Update, formulated by a team of leading experts - none of whom are me," she says while in a laboratory setting wearing a platinum blonde wig. The product was officially relaunched in February and is available at Walmart and Amazon.
Update is formulated with paraxanthine, a compound naturally produced by the body during caffeine breakdown. The drinks contain no sugar, no artificial flavors, zero calories, and are made with research-backed ingredients. Flavors include berry, grape, peach, pineapple, and mandarin. Kardashian described the drink as being about "feeling good. Focused, balanced, and productive without the jitters or that crash later." She also noted her intentionality with diet and drinks, emphasizing the impact of small, consistent habits.
Kardashian had previously shared her determination after her bar exam results, stating, "Six years into this law journey, and I'm still all in until I pass the bar. No shortcuts, no giving up - just more studying and even more determination." She added that she was close to passing and that falling short only fueled her further.
Although sources initially suggested Kardashian might not retake the exam in 2026, insiders indicated she still intends to take the bar exam in the future. In the interim, she has been focusing on other business ventures, including her SKIMS brand, and her role as an executive producer on the upcoming Netflix series "Calabasas." She has also been spending time with her children and boyfriend, Lewis Hamilton.
