A Paris court has awarded Kim Kardashian 1 euro in compensation after she was the victim of an armed robbery in the French capital in 2016. The amount awarded matches the symbolic compensation the U.S. celebrity had requested.
Kardashian was staying at the Hôtel de Pourtalès during Fashion Week in October 2016 when a group of robbers, disguised as police officers, forced their way into her suite. They bound Kardashian and stole jewelry valued at more than $6 million, including a diamond ring she had worn to a Givenchy show that evening.
The robbery left Kardashian deeply shaken, and she described it as "the most terrifying experience of my life." The court's decision also awarded damages to a former receptionist at the hotel, who had sought 550,000 euros ($634,868) in damages and interest, citing trauma from the incident. His lawyer stated that the court awarded him 109,516 euros ($126,472).
The hotel itself was awarded 50,000 euros ($57,741) in compensation. Kardashian's stylist, Simone Bretter, who was present during the robbery, was also awarded 1 euro, the amount she had requested.
Eight individuals were found guilty for their roles in the robbery in a separate court ruling last year. Due to their ages, some of the convicted were referred to as "les papys braqueurs," or "grandpa robbers," with six of them in their 60s and 70s at the time of their trial. None of the convicted individuals returned to prison, as they had already served time during pretrial detention, and none appealed the verdict.
Following the earlier verdict, Kardashian expressed gratitude to French authorities for pursuing justice and stated her belief in "the power of growth and accountability." She added, "I pray for healing for all. I remain committed to advocating for justice and promoting a fair legal system."
