Actor Kelsey Grammer revealed he is praying for Americans he described as 'virus-infected' as he commented on allegations of vandalism at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Grammer, 71, appeared on Fox News' "Jesse Watters Primetime" where host Jesse Watters discussed the pool's recent $16 million renovations and ongoing issues.
Watters played a clip he alleged showed suspected vandals at the pool and asserted that Democrats desired its deterioration. When asked by Watters, "why can't we have nice things?" Grammer responded, "Well, we can, and most Americans understand that we can, and should."
Grammer, a self-identified conservative Republican, stated, "There is a virus that has infected a very small number of people, I think, who just want to tear things down. They've been consumed by hatred." He added, "Of course, hatred ends up basically destroying you. They're welcome to it. I pray for them. I pray for everyone to find decent sentiment in their hearts about this country and about the people who run it these days and about those who love it, because it's worth loving."
Reflecting Pool Renovations and Allegations
The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool underwent renovations as part of preparations for America's 250th birthday celebration. The project involved coating the pool's surface in blue paint, intended to better reflect the Washington Monument. However, issues arose after the pool was refilled, with algae blooming and the new blue surface beginning to peel.
Former President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed, without providing public evidence, that vandals are responsible for the pool's problems. He alleged that individuals used a knife or blade to create a significant gash in the surface and poured destructive chemicals into the water. Trump stated on Tuesday morning that six arrests had been made in connection with the pool, with several individuals cited for alleged vandalism.
A chain-link fence was erected around the Reflecting Pool on Tuesday after additional individuals were reportedly taken into custody at the memorial.
Grammer also touched upon his views on conservatism and the American dream, stating, "If you come from a place of kindness and you come from a space of respect for others, all the other things will fall into place." He emphasized the importance of personal responsibility, noting that balancing a checkbook, paying bills, and taxes are essential components of maintaining one's "ticket to freedom" and achieving the American dream through hard work.
