Kelly Osbourne Fears Son Will Inherit Addiction Gene

Kelly Osbourne, 41, has voiced concerns that her son, three-year-old Sidney, may be predisposed to addiction, a struggle she and her late father, Ozzy Osbourne, have openly battled. Osbourne believes addiction can be a 'genetic disorder' and expressed a desire for her son to avoid the pain she has experienced.

In an interview on the We Need To Talk podcast, Osbourne stated, "I always said 'I'm never going to drink, I'm never going to do that, I'm fine without it'. And I ended up exactly the same as my dad." She added, "It’s something I even worry about with my son. I never want him to go through what I went through. Ever." Osbourne hopes her son will develop self-confidence to the point where he doesn't feel the need to numb any pain.

Osbourne has been candid about her own journey with drug and alcohol addiction since her teenage years. Her father, the iconic Black Sabbath frontman, also struggled with decades of substance abuse. His history included controversial incidents, such as biting the head off a bat on stage and an incident in Texas that led to a decade-long ban from San Antonio. Despite these struggles, Ozzy Osbourne later found a period of sobriety and achieved a new level of public recognition through the early 2000s reality television show "The Osbournes," which also featured Kelly and her brother Jack.

Osbourne recently moved back to the UK, a decision she acknowledged has caused some friction within her family, though she emphasized it has not created a rift with her brother Jack. She described the family as "a little bit upset" by her decision to separate herself to focus on self-discovery. "But I would say that the family's a little bit upset that I have decided to go home and figure out me for a while," she said. "I get it because I don't want to miss out on anything that my nieces are doing. But I also - I'm a mother and I have my own responsibilities and my own life to live and I'm taking this time to be a bit selfish."
