Actor Kellan Lutz revealed in a recent podcast appearance that he and his family relocated from Orange County, California, to Franklin, Tennessee, three years ago, a move prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic and evolving family needs.
Lutz discussed the transition on the podcast "Inside of You" with Michael Rosenbaum, explaining that the decision to move was largely influenced by his wife, Brittany Lutz, and their desire to be closer to her family. The couple has two children, and the proximity of her relatives was seen as crucial for support, particularly when Lutz travels for work.
"Her family is awesome. But post-COVID, a lot of people flew, like fled California," Lutz stated. "A lot of people lost jobs and wanted to move somewhere a little bit more peace given."
He elaborated that his wife experienced a moment of feeling helpless when one of their children became ill, highlighting the need for a stronger support system. "She felt really out of control as far as not being able to bring both kids there or just kind of helpless. So, she’s like, ‘Can we move?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, of course,’" he recalled.
Lutz also noted advice he received from other fathers, who suggested that new mothers often wish to move closer to their own mothers for assistance with childcare. "And one of the kids got sick. She felt really out of control as far as not being able to bring both kids there or just kind of helpless," he said. "So, she’s like, ‘Can we move?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, of course.’"
Since settling in Franklin, the family has found a sense of community, participating in local Bible studies and churches. Lutz also observed a surprising number of film premieres occurring in his new town, suggesting a growing creative presence. "We got some land, got great Bible studies that we’re a part of, great churches, great community," he said.
However, the move has also involved adjustments. Lutz mentioned that they are not accustomed to the seasonal weather patterns in Tennessee, including tornadoes, which can be a cause for concern for his wife, especially with young children. Additionally, the couple misses aspects of Californian cuisine, specifically good sushi and Mexican food. "There’s tornadoes. My wife goes on red alert, especially when you have kids. And we do miss good sushi and good Mexican food," he admitted.
