The long-delayed trade sending Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors has been officially completed, ending a nearly three-month hiatus. The deal, first reported on June 30, was put on hold pending the outcome of an NBA investigation into the Los Angeles Clippers' violations of the league's salary cap rules.
The finalization of the trade means Leonard will join the Raptors in exchange for Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, two unprotected first-round draft picks, one first-round draft pick swap, and two second-round picks. ESPN initially reported the agreement between the two franchises.
The NBA announced penalties for the Clippers' infractions on September 2, stemming from "initiating off-court income opportunities" for Leonard with four different companies. The Raptors had paused the trade on July 9, stating they would await the league's investigation to conclude, as they would have been exposed to potential risks associated with any findings that could impact Leonard.
Leonard was recently present in South Florida for an organized minicamp with Raptors players, though his participation was limited due to the trade's pending status. Both the Clippers and Raptors have now submitted the trade for league approval, allowing the transaction to become official.
