Former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has been invited as a guest on ABC's "The View," according to a CNN report that was confirmed by Fox News Digital.
Leavitt's invitation comes as a one-time guest and not as a potential host or guest host. All six co-hosts of "The View" are returning for the upcoming season, which begins in September, and the outreach to Leavitt was not for a more official capacity.
The news of Leavitt's invitation coincided with her last official day as White House press secretary, a role she held since the start of President Donald Trump's second term. In an interview with "Fox & Friends," Leavitt stated she had been advising Trump on selecting her successor and expressed her intention to dedicate more time to her two young children. She also indicated she would continue to serve the president as an outside advisor.
Reports of the invitation emerged after a previous report suggested that "The View" had become more cautious about booking political guests due to an investigation by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The FCC probe was initiated after the show hosted James Talarico, a candidate in the Texas Democratic Senate primary, an appearance the FCC viewed as a potential violation of the equal time rule for political candidates.
While ABC and its parent company, Disney, have maintained that "The View" is "bona fide news" and not subject to the equal time rule, the program had not hosted any candidates in competitive midterm races since Talarico in February. However, the show has hosted political figures outside of competitive races. For instance, Vice President J.D. Vance appeared on the show in June as part of his book tour.
Leavitt's appearance would also mark a notable moment for the program, which has historically featured predominantly liberal hosts and guests. Data from the Media Research Center indicated that in 2025, only two out of 341 guests on "The View" identified as conservative.
