Former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt responded sharply to an online critic who misinterpreted a photo she shared of her midterms ballot. Leavitt posted a selfie on X, formerly Twitter, showing her with an 'I Voted' sticker after casting her ballot in New Hampshire.

Leavitt also shared an image of her completed ballot, indicating she voted for Republican candidates Kelly Ayotte for Governor, John E. Sununu for U.S. Senate, and Anthony DiLorenzo for Congress. A social media user then commented, "So mail in ballots are ok. Great message!!", assuming Leavitt's photo implied support for mail-in voting, a system she has previously criticized.

Leavitt corrected the user, stating, "This isn't a mail in ballot. I took this picture of my ballot at the voting booth. Get lost!"

During her tenure as press secretary under President Trump, Leavitt was a vocal opponent of mail-in ballots, citing concerns about potential fraud. In a White House press briefing in November 2025, she stated, "There is blatant FRAUD with their mail-in voting system. Fraudulent ballots are being mailed in under the names of other people and illegal aliens! There are countless examples. And we are looking into executive action."

Following her post, Leavitt shared a link to the Republican National Committee's "Protect the Vote" website, which encourages citizens to report potential voter fraud and irregularities.

Leavitt, a mother of two, stepped down as Trump's press secretary in August 2024, citing her family as a primary reason for the decision. She subsequently joined Fox News as a contributor. Prior to her White House role, Leavitt ran for a House of Representatives seat in New Hampshire's first congressional district but lost to the incumbent Democrat. She was replaced as press secretary by Katie Zacharia, who resigned after less than a week in the position. President Trump currently does not have a press secretary.
