Longtime Republican strategist Karl Rove cautioned on Monday that the GOP is currently making the same messaging error that he believes hindered Democrats heading into the 2024 election. Rove suggested that the party's focus on positive economic indicators, such as manufacturing data, core GDP, and jobs figures, is out of step with what voters are actually experiencing, especially with inflation and gas prices remaining elevated.

"We’ve got to remind them that we’ve taken steps to make it better and those steps resonate with ordinary people," Rove said in a video shared by Mediaite. "But we don’t have a good messaging right now. We’re distracted because of the war and, even then, we’re just not getting the message across, in my opinion."

Rove drew a parallel between the current Republican strategy and actions he attributed to the Biden administration, stating, "We’re doing right now what Joe Biden did" by promoting upbeat economic news that doesn't reflect the public's daily financial realities.

The upcoming GOP midterm convention, scheduled for September 9-10 in Dallas, was discussed as a potential venue to address this communication gap. Rove acknowledged its potential to galvanize the party for the final stretch of the campaign but stressed the urgency of the situation. "It could certainly get people in the right place for the final 60-some-odd days of the campaign," he noted, adding that the effort needs to commence immediately rather than waiting for the convention.

He emphasized that this messaging initiative should be spearheaded by individual candidates within their respective states and districts, rather than relying solely on a centralized party effort. The challenge, Rove believes, is to overcome current distractions, such as ongoing conflicts, to ensure the party's core message reaches and resonates with the electorate.
