Several of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's six children have begun the process of formally dropping the actor's last name, signaling a continuation of their estranged relationship with their father. The children have made various public and legal moves to distance themselves from Pitt, who has denied allegations of abuse made by Jolie.
Maddox, the eldest at 24, officially dropped "Pitt" from his surname, being listed as Maddox Jolie in the credits of his mother's film "Couture" earlier this year. His sister Zahara, 21, also recently filed to change her name to Zahara Marley Jolie. Zahara had previously been publicly using the name Marley Jolie for several years, including during her sorority introductions and graduation ceremony.
Shiloh, 20, their first biological daughter, legally changed her name from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie on her 18th birthday, reportedly hiring her own lawyer for the process. Sources close to Jolie stated that Pitt was "hurt" by the decision but expressed hope for future reconciliation.
Twin siblings Knox and Vivienne, both 18, have also taken steps to remove Pitt from their names. Vivienne was listed as Vivienne Jolie in a playbill for "The Outsiders" in May 2024, and Knox had his name listed as Knox Jolie on his high school diploma upon graduation.
Pax, 22, has not publicly confirmed a legal name change. However, in a scathing Father's Day Instagram post in 2020, he referred to Pitt as a "world class a**hole" and a "despicable person" who caused his younger siblings to "tremble in fear." Pax accused Pitt of making the lives of those closest to him a "constant hell."
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, once considered a Hollywood power couple, married in 2014 after meeting on the set of "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" in 2005. They share three adopted children—Maddox, Pax, and Zahara—and three biological children—Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne. Their relationship reportedly ended in 2016 following an alleged physical altercation on a private flight, an incident Pitt has denied. The divorce was finalized in 2024, concluding years of public legal battles over child custody and a shared winery.
