John Goodman, the 74-year-old star known for his role as Dan Conner in the sitcom "Roseanne," has surprised fans with a dramatically altered appearance following a significant weight loss. Goodman, who at his heaviest weighed 400 pounds, has shed over 200 pounds since embarking on a health journey in 2007.

His changed physique was recently highlighted when actor David DeLuise shared an Instagram selfie with Goodman, taken at a supermarket. DeLuise, son of comic actors Dom DeLuise and Carol Arthur, expressed his excitement, calling Goodman a "childhood" idol.

Goodman's weight loss began after he entered rehab in 2007 to address alcoholism. He has spoken about the debilitating nature of his addiction, describing it as a "life or death" situation. By 2010, he had lost 100 pounds, attributing this to cutting sugar from his diet and working out six days a week with trainer Mackie Shilstone. Shilstone implemented a Mediterranean-style eating plan and a regimen of 10,000 to 12,000 daily steps.

Goodman has described his former larger size as "a waste" and emphasized the importance of "portion control" in managing his weight. He has also noted that while he doesn't wish to be an example to others, fearing weight regain, he has successfully maintained his weight loss.

His portly figure was the subject of frequent jokes and occasional plot points, and he subsequently revealed that at his largest he weighed 400lbs

By 2023, Goodman announced he had lost a total of 200 pounds. During the COVID-19 pandemic, his exercise routine shifted towards lower-intensity activities like walking his dogs. He has expressed intentions to re-establish a more consistent workout routine.

Goodman continues to be active in his career, with several projects in development. These include roles in the podcast drama "Hindsight: The Day Before," the film "The Hollywood Hitman," the horror movie "Skeletons," and the upcoming oil industry satire "Digger," slated for release in October.
