Sen. John Fetterman, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, made an unexpected appearance at the Republican midterm convention on Wednesday, delivering a video message praising his Republican colleague, Sen. Dave McCormick.
In the video, Fetterman stated that despite their party differences, he is proud to work with McCormick and will collaborate with former President Trump to protect the "steel way of life." Fetterman identified himself as a "common sense Democrat" who stands "with America" and rejects "socialism and that anti-American way of life."
"Dave McCormick is the kind of senator that gets the job done, and he’s going to fight for Pennsylvania," Fetterman said. "I’m proud to count him as my friend."
Fetterman, who has previously voted to keep the government funded and has indicated he might leave the Democratic Party if it becomes "officially" anti-Israel, also expressed his pride in introducing McCormick as a "great American" and a "great senator."
McCormick responded to Fetterman's endorsement by asking the audience, "How great is John Fetterman?"
Fetterman's appearance at the Republican convention signals a departure from typical party alignments and highlights his independent stance on certain issues.
