New police footage has surfaced detailing New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith's third run-in with law enforcement this offseason, stemming from an alleged speeding incident on July 6. The veteran quarterback was reportedly pulled over for driving 70 mph in a 45 mph zone.
During the traffic stop, Smith, who was driving a silver 2025 Aston Martin, explained to the officer that the vehicle belonged to a friend and that his own driver's license was at his nearby residence. The officer cited Smith for speeding and for failing to have his license in his possession while driving.
This incident follows other recent encounters. In a separate event, a video emerged showing Smith arguing with a woman outside his Davie, Florida, home. The woman made allegations on social media, claiming Smith assaulted her and has issues managing his special needs child. Smith, however, told police that the woman attempted to steal $20 million worth of jewelry from his residence and that he forcibly retrieved it from her. An inquiry into these assault allegations by Davie Deputies has reportedly been closed without an arrest.
In April, Smith was previously pulled over for driving a Rolls Royce with incorrect license plates. Police body camera footage from that stop showed Smith exhibiting irritability toward the officer, questioning why his vehicle's plates were being run. He was issued citations for attaching a tag not assigned and for failing to carry his license.
Smith is currently in his second stint with the Jets, having been initially acquired by the team in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He has also played for the New York Giants, Los Angeles Chargers, Seattle Seahawks, and Las Vegas Raiders. Smith earned the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year award in 2022.
