Jets coach Aaron Glenn lauded edge rusher Joseph Ossai as a "damn good player" following a standout performance during a recent training camp practice. Glenn expressed his satisfaction with Ossai's consistency and the significant energy he brings to the team.
"I love that player," Glenn stated. "I think he’s a damn good player. We know there’s some things he’s got to work on, and we will continue to work on those things, but the energy that he brings just being out there, man, it’s good to see him out there. And the other guys, they feed on that too, because of his energy."
Ossai, who recently returned to full practice after an unspecified issue, demonstrated his impact by recording multiple sacks, including one on quarterback Cade Klubnik, and making several stops behind the line of scrimmage during red-zone and goal-line drills. This performance comes after Ossai was acquired by the Jets on a three-year, $34.5 million contract, a signing that had drawn some scrutiny due to his previous production with the Cincinnati Bengals. In four seasons with the Bengals, Ossai had accumulated 14.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss while starting only a dozen games.
Fellow edge rusher Kingsley Enagbare echoed Glenn's sentiments, noting Ossai's high motor and infectious energy. "Every time Ossai steps on the field, he brings great energy, great juice, and he’s going to fly to the football," Enagbare said. "So, I think that’s kind of expected with him."
Ossai showcased his abilities in one specific red zone drill, shedding a block to make a tackle for loss on a pitch play intended for starting quarterback Geno Smith. The practice marked a solid outing for one of the Jets' significant offseason acquisitions, with Ossai displaying the potential that motivated the team's investment.
