Beverly Vance, mother of Vice President JD Vance, said she was unaware that pop star Taylor Swift had referenced her son's past remarks about "childless cat ladies" when endorsing Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. Swift's endorsement was accompanied by a social media post featuring a cat, which Beverly Vance interpreted as a reaction to her son's statement.
"I had no idea that's what she was even doing. Until you just said that, I didn't even put the two together," Beverly Vance said during a recent appearance on OutKick's "Tomi Lahren is Fearless," adding with a laugh that she found the situation amusing.
In 2021, then-Senate candidate JD Vance made the comment during an interview with Tucker Carlson, stating that Democrats were "a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they've made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too." Beverly Vance described her son's remark as a joke, highlighting his sense of humor.
"I just thought it was funny," she said. "JD's just got a sense of humor and you know he was making a joke and obviously people didn't take it as a joke, but you know, I know JD and he just meant it as a joke."
The vice president has acknowledged the comment was a mistake in his book. Swift's post endorsing Harris and Walz included a photo of herself posing with a cat.
