Jaylen Brown, a former NBA Finals MVP, has voiced his dissatisfaction with the Boston Celtics, stating he "wasn't thrilled with the amount of respect I was shown during this process" leading up to his trade to the rival Philadelphia 76ers. Brown shared his feelings during a livestream intended to address Celtics fans.
Brown indicated that a message was sent and received regarding his standing within the organization. This sentiment follows reports that he was initially offered to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Giannis Antetokounmpo. Although Antetokounmpo was ultimately traded to the Miami Heat, the public knowledge of the Celtics' willingness to trade Brown reportedly influenced the situation.
While acknowledging that Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens is facing criticism for facilitating some of the conversations, Brown suggested there were broader factors at play. "I wasn't thrilled the way he facilitated some of the conversations but there's definitely more to it," Brown said.
The trade places Brown on a 76ers team that recently eliminated the Celtics from the playoffs in a Game 7. He will now join Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and VJ Edgecomb in Philadelphia. Brown described his current emotional state as a mix of excitement, disappointment, and processing the changes, while also looking forward to his future with the 76ers.
