Ayub Qassim, the last person known to have seen missing teenager Jay Slater alive, has married Paige Crisp, a woman recently convicted for her involvement in a £13 million cannabis smuggling operation.
Qassim, 33, who has prior drug offense convictions, married Crisp, 24, in a traditional Islamic wedding ceremony believed to have taken place last year in Thailand. This is the same country from which Crisp's drug smuggling gang imported cannabis into the United Kingdom.
Crisp was convicted last week alongside ten other British individuals for their roles in smuggling approximately 460kg of cannabis. The drugs were discovered by Border Force in 22 suitcases at Birmingham Airport. The gang reportedly paid extra baggage charges to transport the illicit cargo from Thailand to the UK. The operation involved travelling from Thailand to the UK via Charles de Gaulle Airport in France, with suspicions raised when several individuals arrived at Birmingham Airport from Paris carrying the large suitcases. An examination of the luggage revealed a thin layer of clothing over vacuum-packed cannabis, along with eight Apple AirTag trackers connected to a single Apple ID account.
Crisp, a cleaner from Malvern, Worcestershire, and a mother of one, was found guilty of attempting to import Class B drugs with the intent to evade prohibition. Birmingham Crown Court heard details of the gang's methods, including the use of AirTags to track the luggage.
Qassim himself has a history of drug offenses. He was previously jailed for nine years and nine months in 2015 for masterminding a sophisticated operation to distribute heroin and crack cocaine in Wales. He was identified as the ringleader of a London-based crime gang involved in importing these Class A drugs to Cardiff.
Qassim, identified as having Somali heritage, and Crisp, who now styles herself as 'Mrs QuackQuack' on Instagram, have shared images and videos of their relationship on social media, including glimpses of their wedding. Some social media posts suggest their wedding may have been filmed in Medina, Saudi Arabia. Qassim's own social media shows him travelling internationally to destinations including Thailand and Somalia.
Jay Slater, an apprentice bricklayer from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, disappeared in Tenerife in June 2024. Qassim was identified as the individual who invited Slater back to his rented holiday cottage after a rave. During an inquest in July 2025, Qassim testified that he met Slater and a friend, Steven Roccas, at a rave and offered Slater a place to stay at his Airbnb. Qassim stated he last saw Slater when the teenager decided to leave his cottage on foot, intending to catch a bus, despite Qassim advising against it due to the location and time.
Evidence presented at the inquest included Snapchat messages from Slater that appeared to reference a watch possibly being stolen. Qassim denied this, stating unequivocally that Slater did not steal a watch and suggesting the messages might have been boastful exaggeration. Qassim maintained he provided Slater with a blanket and pillow for the sofa before going to sleep himself, and was later woken by neighbors.
Senior Coroner Dr. James Adeley ruled that Jay Slater died an accidental death, sustaining fatal head injuries and severe trauma from a fall of approximately 20 to 25 meters down a steep ravine in Tenerife's Rural de Teno national park.
Crisp's mother declined to comment on her daughter's wedding, stating it was "nobody's business" and expressing that the situation was "very upsetting." A former neighbor of Crisp described her as "horrible" and "vile."
