Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville reiterated his prediction that former President Donald Trump may step down from public life before the end of a potential future term, dismissing theories that such a move would be a strategic maneuver for a 2028 presidential run.
On his "Politics War Room" podcast, Carville addressed a listener's question about whether Trump could leave office as a "diabolical" scheme to circumvent the 22nd Amendment, which limits presidents to two elected terms, thereby positioning himself for another run in 2028. Carville rejected this idea, stating that a future campaign by Trump is not a significant concern.
Carville cited his assessment of Trump's current state, suggesting a rapid physical and emotional decline. He posited that after the upcoming November elections, Trump would face a new challenge: political irrelevance. "He’s not just going to be irrelevant. People are not going to want to be around here. They’re not — not going to care what he has to say," Carville explained.
Based on these observations, Carville maintained his belief that Trump will withdraw from political engagement prior to April. He has previously predicted that Trump might depart the White House before his term concludes, a scenario he linked to a potential defeat in the 2026 midterm elections.
