Jake Reiner, son of the late Rob and Michele Reiner, has married his girlfriend Maria Gilfillan in a small ceremony that took place earlier this month. The nuptials occurred approximately eight months after his parents were fatally stabbed in their Brentwood, California home on December 14, 2025.
His brother, Nick Reiner, 32, has been charged in connection with the double murder. Jake had previously alluded to the pain of his parents not being present for his wedding in an April Substack post, writing, "My parents won’t be at my wedding, they won’t get to hold their future grandchild, and they won’t get to see me have the successful career I’m still seeking. It simultaneously breaks my heart and enrages me."
In his first television interview since his parents' deaths, Jake spoke with ABC7 about the ongoing grief. "It feels like eight years at the same time, and it also feels like eight minutes," he said on August 27. "Because every moment that I wake up, I'm reminded of my reality, and you're living through that every single day."
Jake recounted receiving two calls from his sister, Romy, on December 14, who informed him of their father's death and then expressed distress about their mother's whereabouts. "Romy told me our dad was dead, and then she said, 'I can't find mom,'" Jake told the outlet. When asked about his brother Nick, Jake stated, "He's in jail. So... you know, it's... It's like, I physically lost my parents, and then Nick was arrested, and it's like, now it's just me and Romy."
Jake noted that his parents had consistently supported Nick, even as he publicly discussed struggles with drug addiction and mental health over a decade ago, which inspired the 2015 film "Being Charlie." Jake believed the film was an attempt by his father, Rob Reiner, to connect with his brother.
An unsealed indictment revealed that Nick allegedly lay in wait before fatally stabbing his parents. He was arrested near the University of Southern California campus hours after the murders and charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He faces potential life in prison without parole or the death penalty if convicted. Nick has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Rob Reiner was a renowned Hollywood director known for films such as "This Is Spinal Tap," "Stand By Me," and "A Few Good Men." He met Michele Singer, a photographer, during the production of "When Harry Met Sally."
Nick has also been involved in legal proceedings regarding a trust fund established for him by his parents. He is seeking access to over $1.6 million, arguing that the trustees have improperly withheld funds. A portion of the trust was due to Nick upon his 30th birthday in September 2023, but it was not disbursed. A hearing concerning the trust money is scheduled for October 23, while a pretrial hearing for the murder charges is set for September 15.
Jake is continuing his parents' legacy by supporting the Children's Institute foundation, which Rob and Michele Reiner strongly backed. He is scheduled to attend the foundation's gala on November 8 in their place. "It's going to be hard," Jake said. "I think everything that we've done so far without them has been hard and weird."
