Jake Reiner recently made his first public appearance since the deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, attending the premiere of the HBO Max show "Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness." Reiner, 35, shared photos from the event on social media, noting his own appearance in the first episode.

The couple was murdered at their Los Angeles home on December 14. Rob Reiner was 78 and Michele Reiner was 70. Their younger son, Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested as the prime suspect and charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He pleaded not guilty in February.

Jake and his sister, Romy, have largely remained out of the public eye since the tragedy. In April, Jake broke his silence in a Substack essay, describing the moment he learned of his parents' murders. He stated he was at a celebration of life for a friend when his sister called to inform him of his father's death, followed minutes later by news of his mother's death.

"Nothing can prepare you for what it feels like to lose both parents instantly at the same time," Jake wrote in his essay. "It’s too devastating to comprehend. I still wake up every morning having to convince myself that, no, it’s not a dream. This truly is my living nightmare."

He described the murders as "horrific" and stated that every day since has been "horrendous." Jake Reiner also noted that his brother, Nick, is "at the center" of the tragedy, stating, "We lost more than half of our family that night in the most violent way imaginable."

Jake and Romy issued a joint statement to Page Six on December 17, calling the loss of their parents "unimaginable" and "devastating" but did not mention Nick. They requested privacy as they grieved.

Nick Reiner had reportedly struggled with drug addiction and mental illness, including schizophrenia, for years prior to his parents' deaths. If convicted, he faces a possible death sentence or life in prison without parole. Jake and Romy did not attend his February court hearing.
