Actress Jaime Winstone is embracing the summer with a holiday in Ibiza alongside her husband, James Suckling, just weeks before her anticipated debut on the upcoming season of BBC's "Strictly Come Dancing." Winstone was seen enjoying a boat trip, basking in the sun in a polka-dot swimsuit and engaging in activities like paddleboarding.
Winstone, 41, who began her acting career in 2004 and has appeared in films such as "Made in Dagenham" and "Tomb Raider," as well as television dramas like "Four Lives" and the BBC biopic "Babs," will join a new cast of celebrities for the 2026 season. She met her fellow celebrity contestants for the first time at a dance studio in London last week.
"I am no stranger to a dance floor, but the ballroom is a whole new world for me. I love a challenge though, so can’t wait to enter my showgirl era and get super sparkly!! Let’s get physical – see you on the dance floor!" Winstone stated upon her announcement.
This upcoming season of "Strictly Come Dancing" arrives amidst significant changes for the long-running program. Producers are reportedly aiming to attract a younger audience, a strategy that has led to the inclusion of contestants with substantial social media followings, even if they are not widely recognized by the show's traditional viewership. This shift mirrors a successful approach taken by its U.S. counterpart, "Dancing With The Stars," which has leveraged social media platforms to boost engagement and viewership.
Sources indicate that the emphasis on social media presence is a deliberate attempt to capture a demographic that may not typically tune into "Strictly." For example, some new contestants, like YouTuber John Nellis with over 15 million subscribers, may not be household names but command vast online fanbases. This strategy contrasts with the show's established audience, which skews older, with approximately 60 percent of viewers aged 55 and above.
Further changes include a new presenting lineup. Longtime hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman have departed, replaced by a trio of presenters with strong online presences: comedian Josh Widdicombe, television personality Emma Willis, and fan-favorite professional dancer Johannes Radebe. The celebrity cast reveal also moved to social media this year, diverging from previous radio and television announcements.
The professional dancer lineup has also seen alterations, with some popular dancers reportedly being replaced by those with larger social media followings. This strategic overhaul is part of an effort to modernize the show and adapt to the evolving media landscape, where online stars increasingly influence television programming. The show's producers believe that by featuring personalities with extensive digital reach, they can significantly enhance the program's profile and attract new viewers who are already familiar with these online personalities.
