Jacksonville Jaguars starting left tackle Anton Harrison will miss the remainder of the season after doctors discovered a torn right ACL during a recent surgery. The injury represents a significant blow to the Jaguars, who are contending in the AFC South.
Harrison initially sustained the injury during the Jaguars' Week 5 game against the Philadelphia Eagles in London. He was placed on injured reserve on October 13, an absence that typically requires a minimum of four weeks. However, an arthroscopic surgery performed on Thursday revealed the full extent of the damage.
The 2023 first-round draft pick had transitioned to left tackle this offseason to protect quarterback Trevor Lawrence's blindside. According to Pro Football Focus, Harrison ranked 30th among eligible tackles, performing better as a run blocker than a pass protector.
During the Week 5 game against the Eagles, Harrison was reportedly injured during a running play and was subsequently carted off the field. Jaguars coach Liam Coen commented on the injury on October 14, stating the team would "figure it out when we get back." He added that a procedure would take place, and the team would await the results to determine the outlook.
Walker Little replaced Harrison at left tackle for the Jaguars' Week 6 loss to the Houston Texans. The Jaguars, currently 4-2, are on a bye week before returning to face the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8. "I have a lot of confidence in Walker and Cole (Van Lanen) to go in there," Coen said last week, referring to the "next-man-up mentality."
Despite the season-ending injury, Harrison is under contract through 2027, as the team exercised his fifth-year option in April.
