Jack Tweed, the widower of reality television star Jade Goody, has been charged with drug-driving. Tweed, 39, is accused of being under the influence of cannabis while driving a Volkswagen Golf near Chelmsford, Essex, in December.

He was arrested at the time and is scheduled to appear at Chelmsford magistrates' court on Monday. Court records indicate that Tweed faces one count of driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit. Prosecutors allege that a blood test revealed 5.6 micrograms of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol per litre of blood in his system. This substance is the active component of cannabis.

Tweed could face up to six months in prison and a mandatory one-year driving ban if convicted. A court hearing was initially set for May but was adjourned. It is understood that Tweed, who married Jade Goody in February 2009, was charged in March.

Jade Goody, who died of cervical cancer at age 27 in March 2009, met Tweed in 2005. She gained fame after appearing on the reality show Big Brother in 2007. Tweed, who later appeared on the show The Only Way Is Essex, is reported to remain close to Goody's sons, Bobby and Freddy.

An Essex Police spokesperson confirmed that a man was due to appear in court charged with a drug-driving offense. The spokesperson stated that Jack Tweed, 39, was arrested on Three Mile Hill, Chelmsford, on December 6 and subsequently charged.
