Love Island personality Jack Fincham sustained a technical knockout in the first round of his bare-knuckle boxing match against Aaron Chalmers on Saturday night. The fight was stopped due to a gash above Fincham's eye sustained moments after it began.
Doctors were unable to stop the bleeding, leading to the early stoppage. Fincham, who previously lost to Chalmers in September of the previous year, expressed his disappointment but acknowledged Chalmers' strength. "Not the result I wanted last night," Fincham stated on Instagram. "The fight was stopped on a cut, and that's bare knuckle for ya out my hands. No excuses."
Fincham highlighted the significance of the fight as his first since undergoing treatment for drink and drug addiction. "This was my first fight since rehab," he wrote. "A few months ago I wasn't even sure I'd ever walk to a ring again."
He expressed pride in having the courage to step into the ring and thanked BKBBareKnuckle for the opportunity, indicating a desire for a continued journey with the organization.
Chalmers, a retired mixed martial artist and former star of MTV's Geordie Shore, responded positively to Fincham's post, acknowledging the unfortunate cut and suggesting a potential trilogy fight in the future. "Rest up and go again you belong on that big stage," Chalmers commented. "It’s been nice to be on a card together down the line not punching each others heads off."
Fincham's participation in the fight comes after a period of personal struggle, including a relapse into substance abuse and a period of homelessness. He has spoken openly about his recovery process, detailing the challenges of life post-rehab and a fallout with his family. Fincham received £32,000 in treatment at Rainford Hall in Merseyside. He has been living in a hotel with his dog during his recovery. Fincham stated that leaving rehab was "scary" but expressed optimism about his future, aiming to return to acting and television work. "I'm starting from zero," he said. "I'm a very optimistic person and I just think it can't get any worse than this."
