England footballer Ivan Toney has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm, following an incident at a London nightclub on December 6 of last year. The 30-year-old striker, currently playing for Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli, is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on September 24.
The charge stems from an alleged altercation at 100 Wardour Street in London's Soho district. Reports at the time suggested the former Brentford player, who transferred to Al-Ahli for £40 million in August 2024, was approached by a fan seeking a selfie. A witness described the fan attempting to put his arms around Toney's neck for a photograph, prompting Toney to say, "Get off me, get off me." The witness also noted that Toney appeared concerned about being robbed, potentially due to a noticeable watch he was wearing.
Toney has been on unconditional bail since his arrest last December. He was granted a U.S. visa and participated in the World Cup in June, appearing in two matches, including starting the third-place playoff against France.
