Israeli forces are being deployed to the West Bank village of Qusra, where two Palestinian families have reported being besieged in their homes since Sunday, with power and water supplies cut off by Israeli settlers. The increased military presence aims to address the ongoing situation in the village, which began when settlers blocked access roads to the families' properties.

Confrontations occurred on Wednesday when Israeli security forces attempted to dislodge the settlers, but the effort failed amid clashes with a larger group of settlers. Palestinian security camera footage showed Israeli soldiers and border police using tear gas and stun grenades during these confrontations. In some footage, Israeli forces appeared to confiscate settler equipment, including a canopy they were sheltering under.

The stated objective of the settlers is to displace the Palestinian residents of Qusra. While the specific demands of the settlers are not explicitly clear, historical patterns of settler actions have involved forcing Palestinians from their homes and seizing properties. Settlements in the West Bank are considered illegal under international law, yet Israel has been promoting their expansion.

The village mayor, Abdel Azim Wadi, stated that local residents have observed a "clear and sustained pattern of targeting Qusra." In July, a newly built mosque was vandalized with Hebrew graffiti. This incident followed an escalation that began after settlers attacked the Palestinian village of Tal, resulting in the deaths of four Palestinians and two Israeli soldiers. In a separate incident in July, settlers surrounded a Palestinian home in the nearby village of Jalud for over two weeks, leading to the owners fleeing and settlers occupying the property.
