Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced Tuesday that it had attacked Bahrain, Jordan, and three tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, stating the actions were in response to recent U.S. strikes against Iran. According to a statement carried by the Fars News Agency, the IRGC claimed the strike on Bahrain targeted the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet, resulting in damage to fuel storage facilities and the destruction of air defense radar systems.
Bahrain's Defense Force confirmed that its air defenses intercepted "a number of treacherous Iranian aerial attacks," characterizing the use of missiles and drones against civilians and private property as a "flagrant violation of international humanitarian law." A Jordanian military source reported that the army intercepted four missiles that entered Jordanian airspace from Iran. No injuries were reported in either Bahrain or Jordan.
In the Strait of Hormuz, two vessels linked to the United Arab Emirates, the Mombasa and Al Bahiyah, sustained damage and brief fires. The Emirati Defense Ministry reported that one mariner was killed and eight others were injured in these attacks. These incidents occurred after U.S. President Donald Trump ordered additional strikes on Iranian military targets on Monday, citing Tehran's attacks on commercial shipping. Trump also stated that the United States would "be taking over" the strategic waterway.
These escalations follow earlier U.S. strikes against Iranian military installations. The context of these exchanges includes Iran's ongoing military actions and U.S. responses in the region. The conflict has also been marked by the death of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on February 28, during what was described as U.S.-Israeli strikes at the outset of the war.
