Iran is currently reviewing US-backed proposals concerning its nuclear program, a development occurring as the top American commander overseeing combat operations in the region launched a podcast with humorous content about retirement.

US officials have indicated that Qatari representatives are mediating new discussions with Tehran regarding the nuclear program. The New York Times reported that at least three meetings focused on "concrete proposals" have taken place over the past week, with sessions held in both Tehran and Doha.

Reuters later reported that Iran had transmitted a copy of one nuclear proposal back to the US through Qatari mediators.

This news emerged as Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of US Central Command (CENTCOM), released the inaugural episode of his new podcast, "Inside CENTCOM," on YouTube. The podcast featured casual conversation, including jokes about French fries and retirement. Cooper's role has come under scrutiny following Republican midterm election losses, with some viewing him as a potential scapegoat.

One source close to the White House described Cooper negatively, while a Pentagon source highlighted his previous work with military family support programs under former First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden.

Reports suggest that President Trump has expressed dissatisfaction with Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, who advocated for the war and oversaw its execution. Trump had initially predicted a swift conclusion to the conflict. Hegseth's spokesman has stated his intention to remain in his post through the end of Trump's term.

In a video posted on X, Hegseth defended his actions, stating, "They attack me, they attack us, because we are effective. It’s not going to work. We will not back down."

Vice President JD Vance has been a central figure in efforts to restart talks with Iranian officials. Vance, who attributed the war to Republican election defeats, sent a letter to Iran's Supreme National Security Council secretary with Trump's approval in late October to resume discussions. Vance noted that both he and the president felt positive about the prospects for a negotiated settlement. Trump also recently dismissed the idea of renewed strikes after the midterm elections. He had previously identified Pickaxe Mountain as a potential target and demanded Iran forgo nuclear weapons and dismantle any remaining nuclear material.

Iranian leaders have made critical statements following the elections. US Central Command has not indicated any imminent plans for a return to full-scale attacks on Iran.
