An intruder was arrested Thursday morning after allegedly lunging at NBC’s “Today” co-host Craig Melvin and shouting a racial slur at him inside the show’s New York City headquarters. The man reportedly slipped past security and initially asked for weatherman Al Roker before confronting Melvin.

The incident occurred in a restricted area near the dressing rooms, according to law enforcement sources. Staff and security intervened, detaining and arresting the individual. The encounter did not take place on air, and no one was physically harmed.

Melvin, 47, and Roker, 71, appeared on air approximately 15 minutes after the incident without referencing the event. Show staff are reportedly seeking answers regarding how the intruder gained access to the building undetected. Representatives for “Today” and Melvin have been contacted for comment.
