Influencer Catherine Ebs has drawn criticism online, with many labeling her as 'out of touch' and 'tone deaf' for her comments about a small town supermarket. Ebs, 29, who resides in New York City, documented a visit to a grocery store in a "teeny tiny little town in the mountains" over the July Fourth weekend in a video that has since been removed from her social media.
The influencer stated she was on vacation and had to visit the local store after a planned grocery order was canceled. In the video, Ebs expressed dismay at the store's offerings, noting a lack of fresh produce and 100 percent beef hot dogs. She was recorded expressing concerns, saying, "Their fruit does not look good," and, "I don't see any 100 percent beef. This is absolutely insane."
Despite her criticisms, Ebs filled a shopping cart and made purchases. Following her post, parts of the video were re-shared, prompting numerous negative reactions from social media users. Comments included observations that she was "rude and belittling," "mockery of the store the town the environment," and "beyond rude."
In response to the backlash, Ebs commented that she enjoys grocery shopping but dislikes doing so on a holiday weekend when stores have limited options. She also mentioned that the store was unexpectedly her only option at the time.
This is not the first time Ebs has faced public scrutiny. Previously, she called for the National Guard to manage crowds during New York City's NBA Finals celebrations. Ebs, who previously lived in Texas and is originally from Minnesota, shared a video of the celebrations, expressing her dismay and calling for increased public safety measures. She defended her stance, stating it was the city's responsibility to protect its residents and that the celebrations were "absolutely crazy."
