An Illinois mother has been charged with three counts of murder in connection with the death of her 2-year-old son, authorities confirmed. Corie A. Walsh, 40, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon after police responded to her home in Frankfort, Illinois, about 36 miles southwest of Chicago.

Officers found Walsh's son unresponsive at the scene. He was given CPR and transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. An investigation revealed the child was strangled, according to local reports. Walsh was found with wounds believed to be self-inflicted but were not considered life-threatening.

Walsh is currently receiving medical treatment and is expected to be transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility upon her release to await a hearing. Authorities stated that three other individuals, unharmed, were found inside the residence at the time of the incident.

The circumstances of the child's death have led some residents to draw parallels to the case of Lindsay Clancy, a Massachusetts mother who admitted to killing her three children before attempting suicide. Carolyn Pappas, a neighbor, told NBC Chicago that the incident in Frankfort was devastating and brought to mind the Clancy case, highlighting a perceived struggle many in the community may be facing.

Lindsay Clancy listens to testimony in court.

Constitutional law attorney Jonathan Turley has previously discussed the legal complexities of the Clancy case, including a mistrial declared due to a deadlocked jury and the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court's denial of an emergency defense appeal. These discussions have explored the potential legal avenues for prosecutors and defense teams in such high-profile cases.
