An illegal immigrant is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder and kidnapping, in connection with a violent attack on a 15-year-old girl in Baltimore, Maryland. Abubakarr Barrie, 23, is accused of stabbing the girl multiple times inside a home on Oct. 22 before she managed to escape. He was arrested two days later.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, Barrie entered the U.S. in December 2023 via Arizona and was released by Border Patrol under the Biden administration. He is from Sierra Leone.

ICE lodged a detainer against Barrie on the day of his arrest in Baltimore. However, prior to the alleged attack, Barrie had been arrested in New York City earlier this year on charges of third-degree possession of a forged instrument. ICE also lodged a detainer at that time, but New York City officials released him in July, according to DHS.

DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin criticized sanctuary policies in a statement, saying, "This tragedy would never have happened were it not for the multiple failures of sanctuary policies. First, Biden’s open borders let this monster into our country, then sanctuary politicians in New York refused to hand him over to ICE and released him after a previous arrest three months before this horrific crime." Mullin urged Baltimore County authorities to honor ICE's detainer.

Reports indicate Barrie worked as an unlicensed cab driver. He reportedly took the victim to a basement property he was renting, where the alleged stabbing occurred.
