A 28-year-old woman who was stabbed in the neck during a seemingly random attack while jogging on a Brooklyn promenade has died, her family confirmed. Katie Suarez had been declared brain dead following the incident on the Shore Parkway Greenway promenade last Friday evening and was taken off life support Monday.

Suarez was reportedly knifed in the neck as she jogged along the waterfront path near Bay 17th Street. According to sources, she had left her mother to go for her run, a typical ritual for the family, while her father was to join them later. When Suarez failed to meet her father at their agreed-upon time and location, her father found her bleeding heavily on the path. Police stated she continued running approximately 150 feet after the attack before collapsing.

Authorities have offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case, as no suspect or motive has been identified. Investigators are examining all possibilities, including theories about individuals fishing in the area. Police are also seeking potential witnesses, including other walkers, joggers, drivers, or a food truck operator who may have security or dashcam footage.

The attack has drawn comparisons to the 2016 murder of Karina Vetrano, another woman who was killed while jogging in Queens by a random attacker. Vetrano's killer is currently incarcerated.

Suarez, a graduate of Brooklyn College, was described by neighbors as "very professional, very kind" and "family oriented." Her family stated she had no known enemies or romantic partner.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the police tip line.
