An iconic sign outside Dodger Stadium sustained significant damage after a car crashed into it early Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 3:02 a.m. near an entrance to the Los Angeles baseball venue.
Video footage captured the moment a BMW appeared to lose control while exiting a nearby freeway, colliding with the base of the sign before hitting the gate. The impact uprooted one of the posts supporting the sign and dislodged the letter "U." The vehicle involved was heavily damaged.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, no injuries were reported. The driver exchanged information with Dodger Stadium security personnel and departed the scene without further incident.
By Tuesday, the damaged sign had been removed, and the area was under construction, with a bulldozer present. Plywood was installed to cover the openings where the sign's posts had been.
A request for comment sent to the Dodgers was not immediately returned. The team played a game at Dodger Stadium later on Sunday, a loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, and was subsequently on the road for a series against the Colorado Rockies. The Dodgers were scheduled to return home for a series against the Pittsburgh Pirates beginning Friday.
