An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer shot and killed a man during a traffic stop in Houston, Texas, on Thursday. ICE stated that the deceased, identified as Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, allegedly attempted to use his vehicle as a weapon against the officer.
The incident occurred when the ICE officer initiated a traffic stop. According to ICE, Araujo then "weaponized his vehicle" and drove it toward the officer, who fired his weapon in self-defense. Araujo was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has opened an investigation into the shooting, a standard procedure for incidents involving federal officers.
