Retired Royal Air Force pilot Andy Green has set a new land speed record for a hydrogen-powered car, reaching an astonishing 406 miles per hour (654 kilometers per hour) at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. This achievement significantly surpasses the previous official hydrogen combustion record, which was set in 2004 at less than half the current speed.

Green is no stranger to extreme speed. In 1997, he drove the ThrustSSC, a jet-powered vehicle, to a speed of 763 mph (1,228 km/h) in Nevada's Black Rock Desert. This feat made him the first and still the only person to break the sound barrier on land.
