A 46-year-old woman was found dead with multiple stab wounds inside her Somerville, New Jersey, home on Thursday, according to authorities. Her husband, Ignacio Espinal, 55, has been arrested and faces charges including first-degree murder.
Investigators responded to a 911 call reporting concerns for the woman's welfare at her Brookside Avenue residence. Upon arrival, officers discovered Alyne Espinal with lacerations to her chest, neck, and thigh. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Ignacio Espinal was arrested Tuesday in West New York, New Jersey. He is also charged with third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and third-degree hindering.
The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office stated that the investigation is preliminary and ongoing, with officials continuing to interview witnesses and analyze evidence. The incident occurred approximately 15 miles from Chester, where 35-year-old new mother Brooke Hanlon was found dead in her home on June 6. While the two cases are unrelated, the recent homicide in Somerville has occurred in the same general region where Hanlon's death remains unsolved.
