Husband Admits Drugging, Raping Wife for Two Decades; No Longer Part of Other Defendants' Trial

A man in his 60s from the Stockport area of Greater Manchester has admitted to 60 offenses against his wife, including rape, assault by penetration, administering a substance with intent, and sharing indecent images without her consent. The jury was informed that he will no longer be a defendant in the ongoing trial involving other accused individuals.

The husband, whose identity is protected to preserve his wife's anonymity, has admitted to abusing his wife since 2004. He initially pleaded guilty to 15 offenses dating back to 2022, and on Monday, he admitted to an additional 45 counts. His wife, present in the public gallery with family members, witnessed his guilty pleas.

Twelve other men are scheduled to stand trial at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, accused of serious sexual offenses, including rape, against the same woman. These alleged offenses reportedly began in September 2018. A 14th man has also pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against the victim.

During the proceedings on Wednesday morning, trial judge Maurice Greene informed the jury that they had initially been told the prosecution's case involved sexual offenses by a number of men against a female, with 14 men identified, including the husband. The judge explained that news reports on Monday had detailed a man from Stockport pleading guilty to drugging and raping his wife, admitting to multiple offenses. He clarified that this man was the husband and that his identity was now prohibited from public dissemination to protect his wife. Due to these pleas, the judge noted that "work to be done by parties in this case" was necessary.

The 12 remaining accused men are Philip Wild, 58, from Stockport; Sean Peers, 38, from Stockport; Jordan Wallace, 31, from Manchester; Alan Keelan, 42, from Manchester; Jonathan Kirk, 43, from Stockport; Robert Stewart, 70, from Stockport; Mohammed Sabir, 28, of no fixed abode; Graham Brougham, 74, from Northwich, Cheshire; Richard Townsend, 37, from Rochdale; Karl Lindsay, 55, from Taunton, Somerset; Daniel Rayner, 42, from Whitstable, Kent; and David Graves, 59, from Ilkeston, Derbyshire.

Judge Greene advised the jury that the prosecution was expected to open the case on October 5, with the trial anticipated to conclude by December 18. The jury of nine women and three men, along with two female reserve jurors, have been asked to return to court on that date.
