Hurricane Isaias, strengthening to a Category 3 storm as it approached the Florida Gulf Coast, has led to significant alterations in the college football schedule. Seven games have been rescheduled, and one has been canceled due to the storm's projected path and potential impact.
The storm's approach prompted West Florida to cancel its home game against Northeastern State, with no makeup date anticipated. Another contest, Rice at East Carolina, originally set for Saturday afternoon, was moved up three hours.
Several other games were shifted to earlier times on Saturday or even to Friday to avoid the storm's effects. Florida A&M's game against Alabama State was moved up 24 hours. Southern at Prairie View A&M was pushed back by one hour. Davidson at Presbyterian and East Tennessee State at The Citadel were both moved to noon ET, with the latter being moved up two hours. South Carolina State versus Charleston Southern was also rescheduled to a noon ET kickoff.
These changes affect teams across the Southeast, a region prone to significant weather disruptions during the early fall football season. The storm was expected to make landfall on the Florida panhandle Friday evening before potentially moving towards the Carolinas.
