Hundreds of Utah State University students gathered Friday night for a candlelight vigil to mourn Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist who was fatally shot two days earlier while speaking at Utah Valley University.

Organized by the campus chapter of Turning Point USA, the vigil on the university quad included prayers, a film highlighting Kirk’s career and remarks from student leaders who said they wanted to honor his faith and community impact. Kaitlyn Griffiths, president of the chapter, told Fox News Digital the event was meant to "celebrate this man's life" and focus on his courage and faith.

Attendees described a heavy police presence on campus as they gathered at dusk. Student Travis Ferraro told Fox News Digital he "felt called by God to pray over everybody" and gave a devotional urging kindness. Libby Rasmussen said Kirk "had a really big impact" on her political and religious views and that she wanted to carry forward his emphasis on faith.

Authorities announced the arrest Friday of 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in connection with Kirk’s death. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said Robinson was taken into custody after a family member notified a friend that the suspect had admitted to the killing. Officials have said Kirk, 31, was shot while speaking at Utah Valley University, the first stop on Turning Point USA’s "The American Comeback Tour."

Kirk co-founded Turning Point USA, a conservative student organization that has been active on college campuses. He is survived by his wife, Erika Lane Frantzve, and two young children. Students at the vigil emphasized his religious convictions; Griffiths said Kirk had often said he wanted to be remembered for his faith and courage.

The vigil in Logan was one of several gatherings held across the country as supporters mourned and called for healing. Organizers at Utah State said the event was intended as a space for community members to grieve together and to reflect on the values they attributed to Kirk.

Local law enforcement has said the investigation into the shooting remains active. Police have not released additional information about a possible motive. Utah authorities have been coordinating with campus officials as they provide security at events and support for students and family members affected by the killing.

Students at the vigil described a mixture of grief and resolve as they prayed and shared memories. Manny Chapa, another attendee, said Kirk "was able to preach God while he was up on that stage," and that those present wanted to "carry along" his unwavering faith. Fox News Digital contributed reporting to the coverage of the vigil and the developments in the investigation.
